Sizing

Precision Begins With Proper Sizing

Every STRLN SUITS garment is sold as a complete 3-piece set:
Jacket + Pants + Vest

Our sizing follows traditional U.S. suiting standards with a 6-inch proportional difference between jacket chest size and pant waist size.

Example:
A size 40 suit includes pants with approximately a 34” waist.

We do not separate sizes within a set, and alteration services are not included or reimbursed.

Your suit should be ordered according to your chest measurement first. The waist, sleeve length, taper, and pant length are expected to be refined by your local tailor. However, it is important to consider waist measurements if they are larger than the pants provided in suits.

Example:

Chest measurements is 44", but the waist is 40". Although the recommended suit size is a 44, the pants with this set are a 38W. We'd recommend sizing up to a 46 suit.

Understanding the 6” Size Drop

Our suits are proportioned using a standard 6-inch drop.

This means the pants are cut 6 inches smaller than the chest measurement of the jacket.

If your body proportions differ significantly from this standard, tailoring may be more involved.

Example:

Chest: 42”
Standard pant waist in set: 36”

If your natural waist measures 38”, you may need the waist let out.
If your natural waist measures 33”, you may need the waist taken in.

Why Alterations Are Normal

Ready-to-wear suiting is intentionally constructed with adjustment margins so it can be refined to your body.

It is extremely rare for a suit to fit perfectly straight out of the box. Nearly every man benefits from at least basic tailoring such as:

• Hemming the pants
• Adjusting sleeve length
• Shaping the waist
• Slight tapering

Once a garment has been altered in any way, it is no longer eligible for return.

Because each suit is individually constructed, there may be a natural ½”–1” variation in flat measurements. This is within accepted industry tolerance.

How To Measure Accurately

Use a flexible tape measure. Stand upright but relaxed.

Do not hold your breath. Do not flex.

Step 1: Chest (Most Important)

Place the tape under your arms.
Wrap around the fullest part of your chest.
Keep tape level across back.
Insert two fingers under the tape for comfort allowance.

This measurement determines your suit size.

If your chest measures:

38” → Order 38
40” → Order 40
42” → Order 42

If between numbers (example: 39½”), size up.

Step 2: Waist

Locate your natural waist — slightly above the hip bones.

A simple guide:
Place four fingers below your belly button. Just beneath that is your waistline.

Wrap the tape comfortably. Do not pull tight.

Remember:
Your jean size may not match your natural waist.

Step 3: Height

Height determines jacket length proportion.

Short (S): 5'3"–5'7"
Regular (R): 5'7"–6'1"
Long (L): 6'1½"–6'6"

If you are on the border between heights, consider your arm length and personal style preference.
